Chassé Theatre automates ticket scanning with mobile kiosks

As one of the largest theatres in the Netherlands, Chassé Theatre in Breda welcomes thousands of visitors each week. With multiple performances each day, the theatre looked to optimise its entry process and reduce pressure on staff. Inspired by a similar solution seen in a German theatre, the theatre’s management initiated a project to bring innovative, mobile scanning kiosks to Breda – marking a new step in digital innovation for Dutch theatres. The challenge: reducing staff dependency through automation

Traditionally, tickets were scanned manually using handheld devices operated by staff. This process worked but became increasingly labour-intensive. Especially with overlapping performances across several auditoriums. The theatre needed a fully automated solution that could validate tickets independently, reduce the burden on staff, and support smooth guest flow. It also had to be intuitive, mobile, and aligned with the theatre’s visual and technical standards.

Innovating together: A compact and mobile scanning kiosk with built-in intelligence

Two mobile scanning kiosks were developed, each featuring a 10-inch Android Panel PC by ProDVX, a Newland 3D barcode scanner, and a custom-built housing by Prestop. The units are battery-powered, removing the need for visible cables, and connect via Wi-Fi. Thanks to integrated wheels and compact design, the kiosks can be moved between auditoriums as needed—ideal for a venue where not all halls are used simultaneously.

A standout feature is the built-in surround LED bar on the ProDVX display. It provides instant visual feedback by turning green for valid tickets and red for invalid ones, reducing confusion and eliminating the need for manual intervention. The user interface runs via a browser-based solution, requiring no complex software installation.

Why ProDVX

Chassé Theatre selected the 10-inch ProDVX Android Panel PC for its compact size, reliable performance, and unique integrated LED status light - one of the theatre’s core requirements. With Android OS, Wi-Fi, PoE+, and USB support, the device offered the flexibility needed to integrate seamlessly into the theatre’s setup.

Faster entry and an improved guest experience

The mobile kiosks are now deployed at various entry points when suitable. They have proven especially effective for film screenings with younger audiences, who are familiar with self-service technology. In these cases, the kiosks speed up entry and improve the overall visitor experience.

For older audiences, however, human interaction remains preferred. Staff members still play a vital role in providing hospitality and guidance, especially when kiosks are placed further from the entrances. As a result, Chassé Theatre continues to test and adapt the solution based on the type of performance and its audience.

Thanks to the collaboration with Prestop and ProDVX, Chassé Theatre now benefits from a future-ready, flexible scanning solution that enhances efficiency while maintaining the personal touch where it matters.

DIZ has built the Kiosk devices to provide a unique kiosk for all customers of Reflex Online. These kiosks offer a professional look and feel, while protecting the internal hardware and allowing for easy access and maintenance. Their ergonomic design ensures students can comfortably interact with the touch display, making them a key part of the overall user experience.

Results & Benefits for the University of Amsterdam

The check-in kiosk at the waiting room is the key to streamlining student appointments. The system reduces administrative workload, improves internal communication, and creates a more welcoming, organised environment.
